An Evening with Sam Harris at CU Boulder (3/5)

The CU Distinguished Speakers Board is excited to announce that neuroscientist and New York Times Best Selling author Sam Harris will be speaking at the University of Colorado's Macky Auditorium Concert Hall on March 5th, 2012. Dr. Harris will be speaking on the illusion of free will and the moral and scientific implications of recent discoveries that many of the mechanisms that govern human behavior are random. The talk will be followed by a half hour question and answer session with members of the audience.

Doors are scheduled to open at 6:45pm, and the speech will begin at 7:30pm. Tickets are $2 for CU students with valid student ID and $10 dollars for community members. Tickets will go on sale Monday, February 20th at noon. After that, student tickets will be available at the Distinguished Speakers Board table on the first floor of the University Memorial Center, Monday through Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Community tickets can be purchased at macky.colorado.edu. Please contact cudsb@colorado.edu for hearing impaired tickets. Food and beverages, as well as backpacks, skateboards, cameras, and video recording equipment are prohibited from being brought into the auditorium.

Dr. Harris has enjoyed a distinguished career as an author, with his 2004 novel The End of Faith appearing on the New York Times best seller list for 33 consecutive weeks. Dr. Harris is also the founder and CEO of Project Reason, a non profit foundation aimed at the promotion of scientific knowledge and secular values within society. Dr. Harris has previously spoken at a number of prominent campuses including Oxford, Cambridge, and Harvard University, and has made numerous media appearances including The O'Reilly Factor, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, and various TED conferences.
